Mark Fairhurst from Embracing Futures visited our club for conversation with members and to share the history and ongoing mission of Embracing Futures.
They've been delivering their mission since 1946: To make a difference in the lives of needy and underprivileged children in Summit, Stark, Portage, Medina and Wayne counties by providing financial assistance for orthodontic and other dental care and by offering oral health education for elementary school students.
Mark shared that, like other unaddressed medical concerns, cavities are a silent epidemic in school children. Cavities result in at least 51,000 hours of education missed each year.
We really enjoyed this visit with Mark. At the end of his presentation he gave each of us a brand new toothbrush and tasked us to gift it to a young person along with offering to help them learn to brush their teeth properly. A task we gladly accepted.
